Ear Expansion Radio is a 24-hour independent internet radio station that is, at once, research radio, an educational platform, a space for cultural preservation and collective listening. Rooted in our developing concept of aural art, Ear Expansion Radio is a space for sound that extends the listening experience and engages the hearing body beyond conventional genre boundaries.
The station grows out of Ear Expansion, a long-form podcast series of conversations with artists of color working across all aspects of sound. Over time, Ear Expansion developed into a community-building and archiving platform — an intergenerational bridge for practices that etch our contributions into the history of the medium. Ear Expansion Radio extends that work into continuous broadcast that flows across multiple frequencies.
What We Broadcast:
Our programming is expressedly genre-less. On Ear Expansion Radio you might hear rare jazz, ambient, illbient, techno, experimental sounds, off-kilter hip hop, folk, metal, psychedelia, sound art, radio art, field recordings, lectures, poetry readings, book chapters, storytelling, one-act plays, and far beyond. In short, Ear Expansion Radio operates as curated community listening environment. Programming is developed in collaboratively by Ear Expansion Radio Programming Community and features an evolving list Sonic Experience Curators. Ear Expansion Radio will also feature independent label-focused segments that build deep mixes centered in full catalogues. Artists and Indie labels are welcome to submit their work and catalogue for consideration; DJs are invited to send mixes for review. All who are earnest about there practice are welcome.
How We Operate:
Ear Expansion Radio is a live-only, non-interactive broadcast — there are no skips, no replays, no on-demand archives. Like traditional radio, it rewards presence. Listeners encounter programming only in real time.
The station is advertisement-free, no brand sponsorship (unless reciprocal arrangements with independent, community centered labels and organizations), no commercial budget. It is sustained entirely through artist and community involvement: an independent hub for sound and thought, thoughtfully and creativity curated for listeners and artist who appreciate radio as a medium.
